The one person that understood them was their mother. But when a shocking revelation surfaces, her skeletons come out to get them. And there might not be anything they can do about it.
The more wicked the sin, the more deadly the consequence.

5 STARS

Each living their own lives, Everly, Charley, Quinn, and Ethan, receive the one phone call no one wants to get. Someone in their family has been murdered.....their mom. Sandy Harper was the one person who understood her children's quirks and dreams: Everly the rising musician, Charley the big New York publisher, Quinn the waitress/actress, and Ethan the college boy trying to find his way. As the siblings make their way home to Ohio with heavy hearts, they have no idea what awaits them. As the Harper family try to understand how someone could kill their mother, shocking secrets are revealed. The problem? Their mother was involved with something that got her killed and her family could be next.

Holy Cow! The book blurb peeked my interest and I'm so glad I read this book! The story begins with the Harper family leaving their lives behind, momentarily, to say goodbye to their mother who has been murdered. You don't find out until later in the book just how brutal the attack was and the author does a great job of getting the point across without making the reader squemish. But the book doesn't just center on that one catalyst. The characters of Everly, Charley, Quinn, and Ethan are very different in their life's pursuit. Everly is a rising musician with a hot fiance in Vinnie. Charley, the New York publisher, is quite content with taking care of everyone and being single. Quinn is a waitress/actress who is involved with Jordan, a hot-shot LA producer, and Ethan, the college kid who wants answers. Although the daughters miss their mother, it is Ethan who dogs his mother's death and why it happened. The story flows exceptional well and does not get bogged down at any point. I could not put the book down. This story has everything: romance/murder/intrigue/betrayal/secret lives. I can't wait for the next book.

He flashed back to the night he’d killed her. He’d sat in a black van parked right next to her car in the parking garage. It had taken hours for her to emerge. He’d nearly fallen asleep waiting for her. He heard the sound of her heels clicking on the pavement and looked up to see her make her way to her car. He’d watched and waited, his hands nearly breaking the steering wheel as she approached. His stomach was in knots and his palms were sweaty and shaking. She got to her car and fumbled with her keys. He quickly pulled his baseball cap down to cover his face and tugged at his black hooded sweatshirt and pulled it up as he jumped out of the van.
